The Role:
The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS), a division of NHS National Services Scotland (NSS), is accountable to the Scottish Government and plays a vital role in the healthcare system. SNBTS specializes in transfusion medicine, collecting and supplying blood, tissues, and cells to healthcare facilities while providing clinical services that support NHS Scotland patients. Our collaboration with healthcare professionals ensures that the gifts from donors are utilized effectively for patient benefit, with clinical services customized to meet patient needs.
Within SNBTS, the Patient Services team is dedicated to the care of patients and healthy donors involved in stem cell collection and various therapeutic apheresis procedures, in addition to providing transfusion and transplantation laboratory services.
We are seeking a Locum Specialty Doctor to join our Patient Services team in Edinburgh. The successful candidate will integrate into the clinical medical team within the Centre. Utilizing your clinical expertise, you will enhance your skills in evaluating patients undergoing therapeutic apheresis, supporting the transfusion laboratory, and engaging in clinical liaison with service users. Additionally, you will participate in managing transfusion-related adverse events.
The Ideal Candidate:
Candidates should possess a minimum of four years' post-graduation experience. A background in various acute clinical specialties will be advantageous for this position. While prior experience in haematology or transfusion is not necessary, comprehensive training will be provided. Strong clinical skills, a willingness to learn, and a collaborative spirit are essential qualities for the successful applicant.
