Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our client schools in Wakefield, South Yorkshire.

About the Role:

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals experienced in supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to thrive academically and socially in a supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored support to students with SEN, including Autism, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
  • Assist in planning and delivering lessons, ensuring activities are accessible and engaging for students with additional needs.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and personal development.
  • Support students' social, emotional, and academic progress by implementing strategies that promote well-being and confidence.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and the SENCO to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and monitor student progress.
  • Help maintain a positive learning atmosphere by managing behaviour in line with school policies.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN in an educational setting.
  • A strong understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEN and effective strategies to support them.
  • A thorough understanding of Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), ADHD, and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm when managing challenging behaviours.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly when implementing IEPs and tracking student progress.
  • The ability to differentiate learning resources and adapt tasks to meet the needs of each student.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise with teachers, parents, and external agencies.
  • A proactive and flexible attitude, with the ability to adapt to the varying needs of the classroom environment.
  • A relevant qualification in Education, Special Educational Needs, or Childcare is desirable but not essential.
  • A valid DBS registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one.
