Head of Production Planning and Logistics

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Production Planning and Logistics to join our team at BAE Systems. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of our production planning and logistics strategy, ensuring the efficient operation of our production plan and delivery of products that meet customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and inspire a large team of planning and logistics professionals
  • Drive manufacturing performance improvement through effective planning
  • Develop people and processes to ensure long-term improvement and sustainability
  • Provide governance and leadership within the Production Planning and Logistics discipline, including Procurement Planning
  • Define and implement strategies to ensure people, systems, and processes meet current and future business challenges
  • Control and integrate manufacturing assumptions, facilitate scenario modelling, and recommend operational priorities
  • Operate in a multi-project environment, enabling strategic decision-making by challenging potential plan changes
  • Develop and manage an effective decision-making forum within the manufacturing Sales and Operations process
  • Control ERP system inputs and outputs to ensure effective logistical support for material and product flow
  • Manage external supply chain operations via Procurement to meet customer and internal requirements
  • Act as the System and Manufacturing data owner, providing Planning Control and Logistics support to operational teams
Requirements:
  • Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
  • Extensive operational experience with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and customer needs
  • Experience in high-rate production with a focus on process automation and digital technology
  • Proven ability to lead cultural, technological, and operational transformations
  • Strong leadership in workforce development, engagement, and safety
  • Experience leading teams in a unionised environment
  • Ability to drive operational excellence and solve complex issues
  • Customer-focused with a strong record of accomplishment in improving satisfaction and productivity
  • Experience in production planning within a large manufacturing organisation
  • Familiarity with the effective use of ERP systems in low to medium volume manufacturing environments
  • Certified in Planning and Inventory Management
  • Experience leading large teams through change in a complex and regulated environment
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience implementing and operating an effective Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process
  • Engaging leadership style
