Environmental Strategy Manager

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Strategy Manager to join our team at St Helens Metropolitan Borough Council. As a key member of our Environment and Operations team, you will play a crucial role in developing and delivering our Openspaces Strategy, Resources and Waste Strategy, and other environmental strategies to help the Council achieve its carbon net zero goal.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development and delivery of environmental strategies, working closely with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and outcomes. You will have a proven track record of team management, project management, and leadership, with the ability to develop and motivate staff.

We are looking for an innovative and forward-thinking individual with a strong background in environmental management, climate change, and sustainability. You will have a deep understanding of environmental legislation and policies, as well as experience in leading and managing change in a local authority context.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing environmental strategies to achieve the Council's carbon net zero goal
  • Leading and managing a team of environmental professionals
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and outcomes
  • Managing budgets and resources to deliver environmental projects
  • Staying up-to-date with environmental legislation and policies

Requirements:

  • Degree or professional qualification in a relevant field (e.g. environmental management, sustainability, climate change)

  • Experience in leading and managing change in a local authority context
