Environmental Strategy Manager

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Strategy Manager to join our team at St Helens Metropolitan Borough Council. As a key member of our Environment and Operations team, you will play a crucial role in developing and delivering our Openspaces Strategy, Resources and Waste Strategy, and other environmental strategies to help the Council achieve its carbon net zero goal.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and manage a range of services, including commissioning, procuring, specifying, and coordinating services to deliver and change. You will be responsible for effective team and project management, staff development, and leadership in a busy and constantly moving environment.

We are looking for an innovative individual with a proven track record of influencing and negotiation, as well as ensuring that outcomes are delivered to the quality and standard expected. You will have a degree, professional qualification, or equivalent experience in the Climate Waste/Environment fields, and a demonstrable record of significant knowledge of the environmental sector.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and delivering environmental strategies to achieve the Council's carbon net zero goal
  • Leading and managing a range of services, including commissioning, procuring, specifying, and coordinating services
  • Effective team and project management, staff development, and leadership
  • Influencing and negotiation to ensure outcomes are delivered to the quality and standard expected
