The British Geological Survey (BGS) is seeking a highly experienced and skilled individual to fill the position of Director of International Geoscience. This role will be responsible for leading the globalisation of the BGS research programme, delivering strategic scientific leadership and corporate governance, and representing the organisation to external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee and lead the development and delivery of a diverse and integrated portfolio of international research and innovation projects.
- Contribute to the strategic science leadership and corporate governance of BGS through membership of the Senior Management Board and Science Strategy Group.
- Represent BGS to external stakeholders, including foreign governments, international organisations, and industry partners.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key partners and stakeholders to advance the interests of BGS and the UK.
- Ensure the effective management of global reputational risks and the implementation of best practice in health and safety, project execution, and international stakeholder relations.
- PhD in a relevant science field or equivalent experience.
- Strong senior management and leadership experience, with a proven track record of delivering projects and programmes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate and influence at a senior level.
- Experience of identifying and securing significant external income opportunities.
- Awareness and understanding of the BGS Strategy and Public Science Role, as well as wider earth science sector issues.
