Our Ophthalmology Department provides tertiary services to the population of Northeast London, working collaboratively with other ophthalmology teams in London.

We are seeking a motivated consultant to join our team as a Consultant Ophthalmologist, with a sub-specialty interest in Medical Retina. This is an important post within the department, and we are looking for an innovative and committed colleague who is keen to work with the wider team to develop the service at The Royal London Hospital.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To support the running of the Medical Retina service across Barts Health, taking a lead role at The Royal London Hospital (RLH).
  • To oversee and support the junior doctors and optometrist's clinic profiles.
  • To be involved in the strategic planning and development of the Medical Retina service at RLH.
  • To participate in the three-tier RLH on-call rota (1 in 7) as the third-tier, non-resident consultant support.
  • To assume responsibility for the management of the junior medical staff.
Requirements:
  • Higher degree (MD/PhD) in Ophthalmology.
  • CCT (or equivalent) in Ophthalmology, or within 6 months of a date, or entry on the Specialist Register of the GMC for Ophthalmology.
  • FRCOphth or equivalent Fellowship in Medical retina.
  • Experience with high-volume cataract surgery.
  • Broad experience in Medical retina.
  • Experience with general, acute, and primary care ophthalmology.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals in the field of Ophthalmology.
