Job Title: Chief Executive of Education Scotland

We are seeking an exceptional individual to lead Education Scotland as its Chief Executive. This is a pivotal role in shaping the future of Scottish education, driving reform, and improving outcomes for children and young people.

About the Role

The Chief Executive will be responsible for leading a team of circa 380 employees, with a focus on delivering the Scottish Government's education reform commitments. This includes transforming Education Scotland's work to strengthen national support for improvement in Scottish education, with a new focus on curriculum design, delivery, and improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Agency to deliver on reform commitments, including strategic development and corporate transformation.
  • Play a key role in facilitating digital transformation across the education system.
  • Provide independent professional advice to the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, Scottish Ministers, and Scottish Government officials.
  • Ensure Education Scotland engages with and leads the Education and Skills Reform programmes.
  • Deploy the Attainment Advisor and National Improvement Framework teams to support improvement in Scottish education.
Requirements

An education background with practical experience and a proven track record of leading and delivering improvements in excellence and equity is essential. A professional education qualification is desirable but not essential.

The successful candidate will be a transformational leader with the ability to drive change, build strong relationships, and inspire a team to deliver outstanding results.
