About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Avionics Design Engineer to join our team at Airbus, where you will play a critical role in delivering innovative helicopter solutions to our customers. As a Senior Avionics Design Engineer, you will be responsible for providing design leadership for concept and integration of avionic systems, ensuring compliance with Certification requirements and OEM Type Certificate systems.

Main Responsibilities
  • Design Leadership: Coordinate and manage all avionic activities in concert with business requirements, ensuring a multi-function environment.
  • Customer Requirements: Capture and understand Customer requirements, providing guidance internally and externally to facilitate a cost-effective design and production solution.
  • Avionic Design Concept: Define avionic design concept and integration from agreed customer requirement through to detail design.
  • Design Compliance: Ensure that design meets Customer and Certification requirements within a formal validation and verification process.
  • Compliance Verification: Undertake independent Compliance Verification in accordance with AHUK DOA Privileges.
  • Design Production: Produce and direct detailed design in accordance with project milestones.
  • Design Presentations: Discuss and present design concepts and solutions during customer and supplier meetings.
  • Risk Management: Support Risk Management through identification, assessment, and mitigation within scope of responsibility.
  • Design Mitigation: Initiate design mitigation as appropriate to address project issues such as obsolescence, shortages, and production concessions.
  • Design Documentation: Produce concise and accurate design descriptions to facilitate change approvals and aircraft documentation.
  • Liaison Support: Provide liaison support to production function.
  • Testing and Analysis: Define ground and flight testing to demonstrate compliance with Customer and Certification requirements, and support required testing and documented analysis of results.
  • Compliance Substantiation: Generate or verify compliance substantiation reports as required.
  • Technical Competency: Maintain technical competency and currency to ensure the effective use of latest technology to assist Customers in developing and fulfilling their mission requirements.
Requirements
  • Airworthiness: A good aviation background based in the Avionics discipline, with a detailed engineering knowledge and aircraft avionics systems preferably with a helicopter bias.
  • Certification Requirements: Understanding of FAR/CS 27 and 29 Certification Requirements and EASA/CAA Part-21J DOA and MAA DAOS process and practice.
  • Aircraft System Safety: Understanding of Aircraft System and Software Safety Analysis processes.
  • Design Tools: Proficient in AutoCad or other 2D CAD suite for electrical integration, and experience using Design Lifecycle and Configuration Management Tools.
  • Computer Literacy: Computer literate in Google workspace applications.
Education and Qualifications
  • Engineering Degree: Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Apprenticeship: Apprenticeship or equivalent training.
  • Professional Accreditation: Should be professionally accredited or working towards an appropriate professional accreditation.
Experience
  • Design Experience: Previous experience working within design/engineering environment with electrical/avionic systems integration.
Additional Requirements
  • Security Clearance: Due to the nature of this position, you will require DBS Security Clearance and be eligible for SC clearance.
  • Export Compliance: Applicants must meet any/all requirements of Export Compliance Regulations.
  • Right to Work: Applicants must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK.
