An exceptional opportunity has arisen within Torbay & South Devon Foundation Trust for a pivotal role in the operational management team, as a Clinical Operations Manager.
This is a full-time role, with flexibility for a reduced or condensed hours arrangement.
The position involves working within the Long-term Conditions sector, which includes areas such as Cardiology, Dermatology, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Long-covid services, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurophysiology, Respiratory & Rheumatology. The successful candidate will have the chance to contribute to various critical areas while enhancing their own expertise and skills.
Key Responsibilities
The primary focus for the successful candidate will be to oversee and manage the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and the Cardiology Diagnostic pathways. This role is essential in ensuring the delivery of safe, patient-centered, and high-quality services while meeting key performance indicators. Responsibilities include optimizing work schedules, providing accurate reporting, and utilizing resources efficiently. The position will also involve leading and developing a team of administrative and clerical staff, addressing operational challenges on a daily basis.
The ideal candidate will possess ambition, outstanding communication and engagement skills, and experience in staff leadership, target achievement, and daily operational management. While experience in implementing improvements or managing projects is advantageous, a mindset focused on continuous enhancement is crucial.
This role offers a pathway to advance in management, refine existing skills, and gain insights into medical specialties and their patient care delivery.
About the Organization

The Cardiology department at Torbay Hospital operates across two units: the Heart & Lung Unit and the Cardiac Catheter Suite.
The Cardiology team comprises 10 Consultant Cardiologists, 2 specialist registrars, and specialist nurses in areas such as Arrhythmia, Heart Failure, Chest Pain, and Cardiac Rehabilitation, along with specialist cardiac physiologists.
This multidisciplinary team is supported by an administrative and clerical team, which includes an Admin Team Leader, a Waiting List Coordinator, 7 Medical Secretaries, and 10 Secretarial Assistants responsible for various administrative functions, including clinic typing and reception duties. You will be joining a supportive and dynamic team dedicated to continuous service improvement.
Job Responsibilities
In a time of transformation within Cardiology Services across the broader Devon region, this role will play a crucial part in identifying improvement opportunities and leading smaller change initiatives. This aspect of the position will facilitate the delivery of a collaborative program between Torbay & South Devon Foundation Trust and other Trusts within Devon.
