Job Overview:

The Estimator/Surveyor will play a critical role within the organisation, directly reporting to the directors and overseeing the estimating and surveying team. You will be responsible for managing multiple projects, providing accurate cost estimates, leading and mentoring junior team members, and ensuring the company meets its strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead Estimating Function: Oversee all estimating and surveying activities within the company, ensuring that all cost estimates are accurate, timely, and aligned with client requirements and company goals.
  • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and guide the estimating team, ensuring team members are developing their skills and meeting their performance goals.
  • Client Management: Act as the main point of contact for high-level client interactions. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs are understood and met.
  • Project Management: Take the lead on larger, more complex projects, managing all stages from initial enquiry through to final estimate submission.
  • Cost Control & Accuracy: Provide detailed cost analysis, ensuring all estimates are precise and reflect current market conditions and materials using our bespoke estimating software.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously review and improve estimating processes, tools, and systems to ensure efficiency and accuracy in service delivery.
  • Compliance & Industry Standards: Ensure all estimates and surveys adhere to industry regulations and best practices, while keeping updated on market trends and relevant legislation.
  • Reporting & Communication: Provide clear and detailed reports to directors ensuring regular updates on project statuses and team performance.
Requirements:
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years' experience in estimating / quantity surveying, preferably within the UK construction sector.
  • Leadership: Experience in successfully leading and managing teams, with strong coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of estimating and surveying principles, methods, and software (e.g., Conquest, Bluebeam, or other relevant tools).
  • Commercial Acumen: Deep understanding of market rates, cost drivers, and construction methodologies, enabling accurate and competitive cost estimates.
  • Attention to Detail: Highly analytical with an exceptional eye for detail, ensuring accuracy in all aspects of cost analysis and reporting.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively liaise with clients, team members, and directors.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong ability to identify challenges and offer solutions, ensuring projects remain on budget and on time.
  • Organisation & Time Management: Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Qualifications: Degree in Quantity Surveying/Commercial Management, or related field.
