This is an exceptional opportunity to join one of the busiest major trauma centers in the nation. This substantive consultant position comprises 5 Programmed Activities (PAs) and the successful candidate will integrate into a team of thirteen substantive and three locum Consultants within the Plastic Surgery Department. Our well-established plastic surgery unit caters to numerous spokes from the main base.

This role encompasses various aspects of general plastic surgery, particularly focusing on burns and scar management. The position will require working across multiple sites, with the primary location being the main hospital, where regular clinics and surgical operations are conducted.

Experience in a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) environment and trauma microsurgery is crucial, as the role includes on-call responsibilities for plastic surgery. The new appointee will be expected to collaborate as a vital member of the trauma multi-disciplinary team, contributing to both lower and upper limb trauma cases during out-of-hours.

Main Responsibilities

General Duties

1. Maintain ongoing responsibility for the care of patients under your supervision, including all associated administrative tasks.

2. Lead, develop, and organize services in alignment with the Trust's Business Plans, ensuring effective communication with the Lead Clinician, General Manager, and team members.

3. Cultivate personal interests within the specialty, including the expansion of breast reconstruction services and participation in innovative research.

4. Hold corporate and individual accountability for the professional management of training doctors, encompassing education, supervision, and mentorship.

Specific Duties of the Role

1. Contribute to delivering a comprehensive and efficient surgical service.

2. Provide evidence-based care for all inpatients and outpatients.

3. Uphold clinical and quality standards as outlined in the NHS plan and local contracts.

4. Participate in the plastic surgery on-call rota, initially focusing on the main hospital.

5. Be prepared to undertake additional duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances, including covering on-call during unexpected absences.
