Job Description

The team may also be asked to lead and/or support innovation projects. The Principal Engineer CAD, Closures & Mechanisms is responsible for technical delivery to cost, quality & time for tasks and activities assigned to them by their module team line manager. Note that any engineer may be asked to work in a non-core module area as project needs dictate. The successful candidate therefore should be able to demonstrate a flexible approach.

The Principal Engineer CAD, Closures & Mechanisms for this role will be able to demonstrate relevant engineering experience, gained from working on similar module area systems design & development in previous roles, with experience from concept to production. Candidate requirements include:

CAD Operation Skills
  1. Expectation for engineer to be able to create and manipulate geometry for primary communication of concepts/schemes.
  2. Expectation: 95%-time utilisation for CAD geometry.
  3. Catia v5 operative skills: able to demonstrate high technical competence in 3D geometry & sectional data.
  4. Catia v6 experience: desirable.
  5. Experience of using TCUA (Team Centre) & PLM.
  6. Experience of prior delivery of the designated module systems in the automotive sector.
  7. Evidence of engineering skills: including ability to manage & resolve engineering issues.
  8. Evidence of working effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve results.
  9. Compliance: with company procedures & quality standards.
  10. Involvement: in process improvements.

Main Activities & Tasks:

  1. Support the BIW & Closures Lead Engineer in all day-to-day activities.
  2. Support other activities as required.
  3. Lead the development of 2D and 3D models for closure & mechanism engineering.
  4. Store and release data using TCUA and PLM.
  5. Engineering BoM development. Cost & weight pack development.
  6. PMXU – Part identification in BoM for unique or carryover status.
  7. Design surface (CAS) feasibility FC-checks. Provide feasibility advice & guidance.
  8. Engineering hard-point.
  9. Implement recommendations where appropriate to create a right first-time release.
  10. Participate in cross-functional integration reviews for components & systems, considering technical application, form, function & harmonisation of the execution.
  11. Drive closure of issues & establish the cost, weight & timing impacts.
  12. Support the module deliverables through to the programme required gateway.
  13. Support the development of design rules & guidelines.
