Pension Insurance Corporation ("PIC") is dedicated to ensuring secure retirement incomes through comprehensive risk management and excellence in asset and liability management, complemented by outstanding customer service. Our mission is to fulfill the pension obligations of our current and future policyholders, achieved by establishing strategic objectives and fostering a robust culture grounded in our core values: Resilience, Adaptability, and Loyalty.
We are excited to announce an opening within our ALM Securities & Derivatives division for a Hedging Analyst. This role is integral to a dynamic team that underpins PIC's hedging strategy and the evolution of our investment platform.
The Investment Integration and Hedging Analytics team is tasked with generating regular, precise, and timely metrics to bolster PIC's interest rate, inflation, and exchange rate hedging initiatives across all balance sheets. This encompasses the creation of both asset and liability hedging benchmarks. Additionally, the team closely monitors PIC's Matching Adjustment (MA) portfolio.
This position offers a broad scope of responsibilities, allowing for the development of insights into both sides of the balance sheet. It is also a technology-centric role, as all models and processes utilized by the team are fully automated and supported by substantial technological infrastructure, catering to over 120 users.
The team plays a crucial role in various activities, including our new business pipeline, the construction and maintenance of models for valuing PIC's private placements, and assisting in the firm's balance sheet profit and loss processes. The team significantly contributes to the advancement of PIC's asset modeling systems. Given our growth and the evolving regulatory environment, the role-holder will likely engage in several high-profile projects, including the implementation of Solvency UK.
Key Responsibilities of the Hedging Analyst within the ALM team:
- Assist in the production of Hedging Management Information (MI), which evaluates balance sheet fluctuations across a range of complex scenarios, providing explanations to key stakeholders. Understanding PIC's balance sheet is essential as you progress in this role.
- Support the maintenance and enhancement of the scripted models and associated technological infrastructure necessary for generating Hedging MI.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders across Investments, Finance, and Risk by addressing inquiries accurately and promptly, as well as participating in regular discussions.
- Contribute to the pricing and calculation of risk metrics for private placement loans and assist in the design and controls of PIC's asset systems.
- Engage in investment and company-wide projects, such as Solvency UK.
- Stay informed about internal balance sheet changes, regulatory developments, and market trends pertinent to your role.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Background in a life insurance company or consultancy is preferred, though all backgrounds will be considered.
- Strong academic credentials in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or a related discipline.
Knowledge:
- Interest and foundational knowledge of the UK PRT market and its trends.
- Understanding of life insurance balance sheets.
- Familiarity with asset and derivative valuations and risk modeling.
Skills:
- Excellent organizational abilities.
- Capability to articulate complex topics to non-technical audiences.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Matlab or Python.
Desirable Personal Attributes:
- Intellectually curious with a proactive approach to learning through independent research.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities, employing consultative questioning to challenge existing norms and drive improvements within the business function.
- Effective communicator who can distill insights into clear messages and engage effectively with others in the business function, as well as with internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Innovative thinker with a positive outlook on change and a readiness to embrace new ideas and techniques to enhance performance.
Benefits:
Alongside a competitive base salary and the opportunity to participate in our annual performance-related bonus scheme, joining Pension Insurance Corporation grants you access to a range of excellent benefits, including private medical insurance, 28 days of annual leave (excluding bank holidays), a generous pension scheme, and more.
