Position Overview:

Dunbar Education is on the lookout for a skilled and committed Laboratory Support Technician to join our esteemed Primary School.


Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will primarily work within the laboratory or preparation area, responsible for:

  • Preparing chemicals and equipment for various practical lessons.
  • Assisting teachers and students during classes and laboratory sessions.
  • Providing technical guidance to academic staff.
  • Helping students with cleanup, ensuring safe disposal of used chemicals, and washing laboratory equipment.
  • Monitoring the storage of chemicals and equipment, ensuring adherence to COSHH and CLEAPSS guidelines.
  • Managing inventory control, including ordering new or replacement equipment and chemicals.
  • Regularly inspecting and maintaining laboratory apparatus.
  • Ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of the preparation room and science classrooms.
  • Photocopying, preparing educational resources, and assisting with administrative tasks.
  • Participating in regular meetings with the Head of Science.
  • Providing comprehensive support to facilitate the smooth operation of the Science Department.

Required Skills:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Strong practical and organizational skills with the ability to manage workload effectively.
  • Excellent scientific and technical knowledge complemented by solid IT proficiency.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Capability to manage competing priorities efficiently.
  • A meticulous and thorough approach to tasks.
  • Initiative and the ability to work autonomously.

Qualifications:

While a science-based degree is preferred, it is not mandatory. Previous experience in an educational or laboratory environment is desirable but not essential. Experience working with children in an educational setting is a plus.


Additional Duties:

Collaboration with academic staff and students is crucial, as teamwork is a significant aspect of this role. You may also assist on educational trips or activities with students throughout the academic year. Occasional travel for training events or field trips may be required.
