Behaviour Support Worker Role Overview

As a Behaviour Support Staff member, you will play a vital role in assisting students with their behaviour and emotional well-being. You will work closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to develop and implement effective support strategies that foster positive behaviour and emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and group support to students with SEMH needs, both in and outside of the classroom.
  • Develop and implement individualised behaviour support plans in collaboration with teachers, parents, and external agencies.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting support plans as needed.
  • Deliver interventions and strategies to manage challenging behaviour and promote positive social and emotional development.
  • Build supportive relationships with students to enhance trust and engagement.
  • Assist teachers in creating a positive learning environment and offer training on behaviour management techniques.
  • Maintain accurate records and report on student progress and incidents as required.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the SENCO and other staff to discuss student needs and progress.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
  • Relevant qualification in education, psychology, or a related field (e.g., degree in Psychology, Child Development, or Teaching Assistant qualification).
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • Additional training or certification in SEMH or related fields (e.g., Team Teach, CBT techniques).
  • Experience in a similar role within a school or educational setting.
