We have a challenging program in front of us in the run up to achieving 2030 net zero targets. AECOM Transmission and Distribution is currently supporting the network development which will underpin grid modernisation.

We are seeking a highly skilled Cable Systems Engineer to join our Transmission & Distribution practice, as part of our Cable Engineering team. The primary objective of this role is to assist the team in the development and delivery of cable systems activities.

Your main cable systems design activities in this role include:

  • Developing cable burial route risk assessments, landfall, and cable protection systems for offshore, subsea applications.
  • Gathering and correlating engineering data using established and well-defined procedures, and generating detailed cable reports.
  • Developing detailed offshore routine engineering assignments, including HVAC/HVDC, IAC and export cable design, for both static and dynamic systems.

Your projects will include:

  • HVAC Interconnectors
  • HVAC and HVDC Offshore Windfarm projects

Key responsibilities:

  • Perform work in accordance with the agreed budget and schedule with little supervision.
  • Coordinate across project disciplines, external subcontractors and remote offices such that technical risks are identified and mitigated, and all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.

Requirements:

  • An electrical/electronic/power engineering or similar qualification, such as an HNC, HND, BSc/BEng and/or an MSc/MEng.
  • Professionally qualified in Electrical Engineering (CEng Chartered Engineer or working towards achieving this).
  • An ability to implement software tools to provide desktop studies and generate reports, using Cymcap, Cableizer, COMSOL software as an example.
  • Understanding of HVAC and HVDC transmission principles and requirements management.
