Nuclear Security Police Officer
The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) serves as an armed law enforcement agency focused on the nuclear sector. Our mission is to be acknowledged both nationally and internationally as the premier organization for delivering protective policing within the civil nuclear industry and other vital national infrastructures. To fulfill this mission, we are committed to recruiting dedicated and skilled professionals to join our ranks.
Our responsibility in safeguarding national security is distinct, which is why serving as a CNC Police Officer transcends conventional policing roles. You will be integrated into a highly skilled, disciplined, and professional unit operating from our Operational Units, providing round-the-clock armed response; safeguarding nuclear facilities, materials, and local communities while collaborating with local Home Office Police Forces. We play a pivotal role in the Strategic Armed Policing Reserve and have been mobilized nationwide in response to security threats.
Upon your induction into the CNC, you will embark on the Level Four Non Home Office Police Officer apprenticeship. This two-year program begins with a 19-week residential Initial Foundation Programme (IFP), encompassing our comprehensive Authorised Firearms training. We equip our officers with the necessary skills to become some of the most proficient firearms experts in the nation, eliminating the need for prior policing experience upon joining.
Following the IFP, you will be assigned to your designated location, and during the subsequent 20 months as an operational Authorised Firearms Officer, you will compile a portfolio of evidence to showcase your policing capabilities. As you approach the conclusion of your apprenticeship, you will undergo an End Point Assessment, and upon successful completion, you will be confirmed in your rank as a Police Constable.
After completing your two-year probationary period, you will have the opportunity to apply for roles in specialized areas to further enhance your policing expertise, such as Dog Handler, Special Branch, Firearms Instructor, or Strategic Escort Group Officer.
As police officers, the public expects us to uphold the highest standards, values, and professional qualities consistently. The CNC values and Code of Ethics apply to all officers, outlining the principles and standards of conduct we anticipate, and you are accountable for embodying and delivering these standards.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess a full manual driving license.
Advantages of working with the CNC:
22 days (176 hours) of annual leave, in addition to bank holidays Generous pension scheme with a 20.7% employer contribution Complimentary parking at all sites Access to free gym facilities at select locations Enhanced family-friendly and wellbeing policies Cycle to Work initiative Officers and staff can join the national Blue Light Card scheme, offering discounts on various products and services for those in emergency services, NHS, and Armed ForcesEquality, Diversity, and Inclusion are fundamental to our organizational values. At CNC, we appreciate and embrace the diverse experiences, identities, and abilities that each individual contributes to our team. We strive to empower everyone to bring their authentic selves to work in a safe and open environment.
Through the dedicated efforts of our affinity networks, ED&I team, and broader HR departments, we are committed to embedding our ED&I principles, ensuring CNC is an employer of choice where everyone feels included.
