We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vascular Consultant to join our team at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a leading provider of specialized services, we are committed to delivering high-quality care and clinical excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Lead in a specific clinical area of vascular surgery and contribute at national level
- Actively contribute to the general organization and running of vascular services within the Trust, working in collaboration with colleagues
- Effectively manage clinics/theatre lists
- Lead the delivery of vascular and endovascular services to neighboring trusts
- Establish office-based varicose vein intervention in neighboring trusts
- Ensure that patient safety, quality, and clinical governance are promoted and developed within the vascular service to ensure the highest possible standard of healthcare and sharing of lessons learned
- Coordinate clinical audit relevant to the vascular service, with particular attention to NICE guidance, NCEPOD, CQUIN targets, and the Vascular Registry annual reports
- Assist the Surgical Services Director of Operations and Clinical Director in the timely investigation of complaints, working to provide reports within the timeframe set out by Trust policy
- Primary Medical Qualification
- Full GMC Registration
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC)
- Possession of FRCS Vasc or equivalent
- Higher Degree (PhD/MD/MS/MPhil)
- Special skills training in the specialty
- Evidence of experience in the specialty
- Evidence of a substantial commitment to the specialty
- Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion within the specialty
- Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary center
- Evidence of independent performance of vascular procedures (aortic aneurysm surgery, endovascular aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, lower-limb bypass)
- Evidence of ability to deliver full-range of modern varicose vein techniques, including office-based intervention
- Evidence of ability to deliver peripheral endovascular intervention and combined endovascular/open surgery techniques
- Interest and willingness to develop delivery of services (including endovascular and endovenous) in the management of vascular patients
- A commitment to delivering/developing vascular services in neighboring Trusts
- Alignment with the Trust's values
- Flexible approach to service delivery and committed approach to development
- Committed to share in professional, managerial, and teaching responsibilities necessary to fulfill the obligations of the Directorate to the Trust and its workforce
- A commitment to personal/unit CPD
- Ability and willingness to work the on-call rota
- Ability and willingness to work a more flexible pattern of working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work
