Job Description

We're seeking a Project Controls Manager to support High Tech and Manufacturing projects in the North West. As a key member of our team, you'll lead a multi-functional Project Controls team, working collaboratively with clients and supply chain partners to provide a realistic baseline and embed effective controls.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop a robust breakdown structure, integrating data from controls functions.
  2. Coordinate estimating sessions to reach an agreed cost baseline, focusing on value for money and budget realism.
  3. Lead planning sessions and workshops to compile the master project/programme schedule baseline, ensuring an achievable duration.
  4. Understand procurement principles, collating lead times within the schedule to communicate prioritization of ordering materials and equipment.
  5. Manage risk assessments to support cost and schedule predictability.
  6. Stakeholder management, ensuring key stakeholders sign off the baseline and have visibility of regular progress updates.
  7. Embed a robust update process, ensuring schedule, interfaces, cost, risk, and changes are managed effectively.
  8. Guide and influence the principal contractor and client, driving delivery and achieving schedule and cash flow KPIs.
  9. Control costs with knowledge of conceptual estimating, funding stage gates, basic contingency principles, and procurement principles.
  10. Control the master program, applying quality checks to updates from the client and principal contractor.
  11. Lead the change management process and workflow, providing a platform for adding, tracking, monitoring, and approving change in a timely fashion.
  12. Identify trends and root causes of deviations against the baseline, reporting remedial actions to drive best value for the client.

Requirements

  1. Proven experience in delivering controls in a major project/programme environment.
  2. Experience working in the Hi-tech & Manufacturing specialist sector.
  3. Experience managing a multi-functional controls team.
  4. Proficiency with controls/software applications such as Primavera (P6), Power BI, Microsoft Office Applications.
  5. Knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and start-up work processes.
  6. Knowledge of engineering and construction management.
  7. Experience leading collaborative workshops.
  8. Reliable with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  9. Strong time management skills, quick thinking, and ability to meet project deadlines.
  10. Highly motivated and driven, with a passion for delivering to clients and the ability to work independently.
  11. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  12. Flexible with regards to travel, even with increased levels of remote working.
