Reentry Support Specialist

Position Overview
This rewarding role is situated within the Reentry, Programs, and Education Unit at the Department of Corrections Headquarters. You will be instrumental in enhancing community safety and minimizing recidivism by delivering essential services to individuals on probation in partnership with state and local organizations.
- Provide Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) services in accordance with State Opioid Response (SOR) and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) guidelines.
- Assist individuals under state supervision, fostering recovery and employing recovery-oriented language in PRS documentation.
- Utilize your casework counseling expertise and completed 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist training from the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services.
- Exhibit a positive outlook on probationers' recovery journeys and effectively engage individuals through strong communication skills.
Essential Qualifications
Proven experience in casework counseling, completion of 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist training, and a thorough understanding of recovery methodologies. Candidates must possess effective communication abilities, engage with individuals at various stages of change, and maintain ethical responsibilities and confidentiality standards while facilitating recovery pathways.
Preferred Attributes
Preference will be given to candidates who are VA Certified Peer Recovery Specialists, have experience as a VADOC PRS Vendor, and hold certification as a facilitator for Evidence-Based recovery groups.
