Job Title: Building Safety Specialist

United Living Group is seeking a highly skilled Building Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our delivery team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health, safety, and environmental performance of our projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support projects in delivering our Health, Safety, and Environmental strategy, ensuring managers assume full responsibility for their activities.
  2. Provide expert advice on CDM Regulations, specifically for Client, Principal Designer, and Principal Contractor roles.
  3. Ensure suitable controls and processes are in place for the CDM Risk Register and monitoring of temporary works inspections.
  4. Provide Health, Safety, and Environmental input into the tender and contract award process.
  5. Act as a single point of contact for Health & Safety matters, ensuring the effectiveness of Construction Phase Plans.
  6. Provide environmental and sustainability guidance to meet our targets and metrics.
  7. Support and undertake accident/incident investigations to establish root causes and communicate learning points.
  8. Challenge existing working methods to incorporate Health, Safety, and Environmental good practice.
  9. Contribute to a safe and secure culture through behavior-based coaching.
  10. Liaise with the construction industry to share and implement lessons learned.
  11. Coordinate and develop positive relationships with local stakeholders, HSE, Local Authorities, EA, and SEPA.
  12. Provide support and guidance to ensure project representatives are aware of their SHE roles and responsibilities.
  13. Undertake reviews of contractor documentation, participate in site safety meetings, H&S Audits, and Sensible Monitoring Inspections.
  14. Provide independent H&S audit capability to the delivery teams.
  15. Assist project team representatives with reviewing contractor competence and identifying training needs.
  16. Provide monthly H&S data and safety stats to line management.

Qualifications:

  • Interpersonal, Supervisory, or Management
    • Good interpersonal skills with proven coaching and motivating abilities.
    • Ability to communicate and influence effectively at all organizational levels.
    • Ability to recommend preventative action and develop new initiatives.
    • Ability to develop and deliver training/briefing material.
  • Technical or Specialist
    • Good understanding of CDM Regulations, specifically for Client, Principal Designer, and Principal Contractor roles.
    • Experienced in auditing and root cause analysis techniques.

Essential Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH Certificate and considerable relevant construction SHE & Water industry experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of Environmental management requirements.
  • Current full UK driving license.
  • EUSR Cross Country Pipelines / SHEA Water.
  • Diploma (or equivalent) in Health & Safety and/or considerable relevant SHE & Water industry experience.
  • Membership of a safety or environmental professional body or engineering institute to incorporated or chartered level.
  • Formal auditor training ISO 9001 /14001/18001 trained.
