Band 8A - Lead Nurse
An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a senior nursing professional with substantial expertise in critical care to spearhead the future of critical care services at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. We seek a highly driven senior nurse with a demonstrated history of effective team leadership and empathetic guidance to join and oversee our critical care team.
Our integrated Intensive Care and High Dependency Units comprise 12 beds at one facility, catering to a diverse range of patients, including those requiring medical, surgical, burn, spinal, and trauma care, alongside a 6-bed unit at another facility focused on medical, cardiology, stroke, and surgical patients. The teams operate across multiple sites, and you will be accountable for the ongoing development and enhancement of the team.
You will have the chance to advance clinical practices and are expected to provide continuous support to both senior and junior colleagues across all sites. Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership capabilities in critical care nursing, with a minimum of 2 years' experience in a senior nursing role (Band 7 or above). The position necessitates expert knowledge in critical care nursing, which must be evidenced through a post-registration qualification.
Main Responsibilities
- Deliver visible and accessible guidance and support to staff within your services on matters related to safe and compassionate nursing care, dedicating at least 50% of your working hours to the clinical area. This will involve supernumerary activities such as reviewing care standards, mentoring staff, assessing documentation, and engaging with patients and their families to understand their care experiences.
- Provide expert clinical leadership and guidance to your services, collaborating with teams or individuals to demonstrate best practices in care delivery, thereby enhancing staff performance and ensuring sustained improvements in patient care.
- Assume responsibility for ensuring that quality assurance activities are executed within your services, including conducting quality rounds, participating in peer reviews, and convening or attending relevant service meetings.
- Ensure that all areas under your supervision are well-maintained, hygienic, and secure. Collaborate with the Infection Prevention and Control Team to establish cleaning protocols and monitor adherence.
