Job Overview
This position offers an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Practitioner specializing in Mammography to join our dedicated team, contributing to the delivery of exceptional breast imaging services.
To qualify for this role, candidates should hold a Foundation Degree in Breast Imaging (FdSc), a Certificate of Higher Education in Mammography, or equivalent qualifications. While we prefer experienced candidates, we are open to training individuals who can demonstrate their potential and meet the necessary eligibility criteria. Candidates must also possess Functional Skills level 2 in English and Maths or equivalent GCSE qualifications.
The ideal candidate will be motivated, diligent, and possess outstanding communication abilities. The role will be based at various locations, and the candidate should be prepared to travel as needed to support the Trust's services. Familiarity with the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme and the symptomatic breast cancer pathway is essential.
Due to the nature of this role, it is a genuine occupational requirement that only female applicants are considered, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
Main Responsibilities
The Assistant Practitioner will be responsible for delivering a high-quality mammography service as part of the NHS Breast Screening Programme and Symptomatic Service, under the guidance of a qualified Mammographer.
Key duties include:
- Adhering to established protocols as defined by departmental guidelines and Scope of Practice.
- Assisting Radiologists, Radiographers, and other members of the multidisciplinary breast imaging team.
- Maintaining flexibility in service delivery, which may involve working across multiple sites and adapting to last-minute schedule changes.
- Conducting duties at various breast units and mobile screening units throughout the region.

Our Breast Services manage a significant NHS Breast Screening population and see a substantial number of patients through GP-referred clinics annually. We operate from multiple static sites and mobile units, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the county.
Qualifications
Essential:
- GCSE Maths and English Grades A-C/4-9 or Functional Skills Maths and English level 2 or equivalent.
Desirable:
- Foundation Degree in Breast Imaging (FdSc) or Certificate of Higher Education in Mammography or equivalent training.
- SCoR Accreditation.
Experience
Essential:
- Experience working within a breast screening unit.
- Basic IT skills.
- Ability to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with IT systems such as CRIS, NBSS, and PACS.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential:
- Understanding of the Assistant Practitioner role in breast imaging services.
- Awareness of professional conduct and boundaries of practice.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
