Job Title: Data Scientist and Associate Data Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our team at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology. As a Data Scientist, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing semantic web approaches to advance data interoperability and metadata management across our digital assets.

About the Role

You will be responsible for exploiting data science techniques such as semantic data modelling, natural language processing, and the use of ontologies to add value and meaning to data. You will also research and develop novel and reusable approaches to enhance discoverability of UKCEH data and assets, specifically large-scale, long-term environmental data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement semantic web approaches to advance data interoperability and metadata management
  • Exploit data science techniques to add value and meaning to data
  • Research and develop novel and reusable approaches to enhance discoverability of UKCEH data and assets
  • Work closely with the Environmental Data Science team to embed semantic data science tools and techniques into the Digital Research Infrastructure
Requirements
  • Good degree in an appropriate subject (e.g., data science, environmental science, or computer science)
  • PhD or equivalent relevant experience
  • Knowledge and experience of semantic data models and semantic technologies
  • Demonstrable experience in the use of semantic data science techniques
  • Aptitude for learning new data science technologies and techniques
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Scientific programming skills (e.g., Python, R)
