Job Opportunity: Ionospheric Outflow Researcher

Job Summary:

Lancaster University is seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our Space and Planetary Physics group. The successful candidate will work on an STFC-funded project investigating ionospheric outflow at Jupiter, utilizing numerical modeling and collaboration with international research partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a 1-D numerical model to globally characterize Jupiter's ionospheric outflow
  • Collaborate with 3D General Circulation Models of the thermosphere and the latest descriptions of the planet's intrinsic magnetic field structure
  • Participate in project-aligned research and disseminate results through peer-reviewed publications
  • Build collaborations with the national and international research community through conference and workshop attendance

Requirements:

  • PhD in space physics, atmospheric physics, or a related field
  • Equivalent experience by the start date
  • Strong numerical modeling skills and background in planetary physics
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
