Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Lead Pharmacy Aseptic Technician to become a vital member of our specialized aseptic team.

The aseptic unit is responsible for the preparation of critical medications, including chemotherapy and monoclonal antibodies, ensuring that patients receive the highest quality of care.

This role involves collaborating with Senior Aseptic Technicians to deliver exceptional aseptic services. Key responsibilities include the preparation of cytotoxic medications, training staff in aseptic techniques, dispensing necessary medications, maintaining cleanliness in the aseptic unit, and accurately recording microbiological data.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong motivation and meticulous attention to detail. Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively are essential, along with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. A minimum of NVQ Level 2 in pharmacy or an equivalent qualification is required.

Participation in an extended hours rota, including weekends and public holidays, is expected.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work closely with pharmacists and technicians within the aseptic production unit. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the preparation and dispensing of aseptically produced medications.
  • Conducting daily monitoring and cleaning of isolators and maintaining the clean room environment.
  • Adhering to the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • Flexibility to work at various locations as needed to meet service demands.

All tasks will be performed in accordance with established procedures and professional standards, with an emphasis on developing safe work practices to ensure patient safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote adherence to Good Manufacturing Practice and relevant procedures within the aseptic services department.
  • Prepare critical medications in a controlled clean room environment.
  • Accurately document batch numbers and expiry dates on aseptic worksheets.
  • Label and package final products in compliance with aseptic protocols.
  • Dispense and label oral chemotherapy and supportive medications.
  • Collaborate with other Pharmacy Assistants and Senior Pharmacy Technicians to ensure timely delivery of aseptic products.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records.
  • Supervise junior staff and act in the absence of Senior Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Participate in cleaning and monitoring routines for the aseptic unit.
  • Engage in ongoing validation of aseptic practices.
  • Assist in maintaining the Quality Management system.
  • Monitor microbiological results and take necessary actions when results deviate from established limits.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • NVQ Pharmacy Level 2 or equivalent.
  • GCSEs in Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice.
  • Experience with aseptic techniques.

Desirable:

  • Experience in an aseptic unit.
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical isolators.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
