Job Title: Traffic Operator

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Traffic Operator to oversee the daily activities of our drivers, ensuring efficient and effective operations. The successful candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and monitor daily activities of drivers to achieve set targets and ensure smooth operations.
  • Control costs by managing nights out and monitoring parking locations.
  • Investigate revenue and cost targets, and ensure accurate timesheet approval.
  • Ensure costs are correct on running sheets and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Take responsibility for containers left on wheels in yards, and ensure exports make intended vessels and empties are returned in time to avoid detention fees.
  • Ensure a pickup leg is put in for anything lifted off, and move it into the relevant planning screen.
  • Ensure containers are returned to quay/depot before detention is incurred and prior to vessel cut-offs, escalating to the Planner if necessary.
  • Ensure vehicles and relevant information are put on the backload the day before the job.
  • Find ways to make the job more profitable by utilizing one-way, tip, and reload.
  • Provide drivers with weekend overtime shifts and ensure they are given their next day details by 1700 hrs each day where possible.
  • Monitor driver cover sheets for the next day in case of changes.
  • Ensure drivers are trained to use specialized equipment.
  • Ensure all ATA/ATD's/ETA's and trailer numbers are in Truckcom.
  • Ensure all override dates are set correctly to ensure the sub-contractor trailer report is correct.
  • Monitor ETA's and enter late advices at least 30 minutes before the booking time.
  • Send demurrage warnings once the driver has been on site for 2 hours.
  • Ensure all vehicles are routed and every driver is aware of his job and start time.
  • Ensure all OV's and sub-contractors are logged on and using the Truckcom app.
  • Follow service and MOT schedules.
  • Research and understand drivers' legal working hours and update knowledge with internal training if required.
  • Build positive and effective relationships with drivers on your traffic sheet(s) to ensure a content workforce.

Requirements:

  • Oversee, manage, and monitor the daily activities of allocated drivers.
  • Keep up to date with all relevant legislation and ensure regulations, policies, and procedures are followed.
  • Make decisions in the best interests of the Company and for clients, elevating issues to your line manager if necessary.
  • Promote a company culture that encourages high morale and top performance.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Minimize operation expenditure within the business wherever possible.
  • Understand and comply with the Health, Safety, and Environment Policy, carrying out work in accordance with its requirements.
  • Set a personal example with respect to health and safety.
  • Be an effective team player.
  • Be proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and all other in-house systems.
  • Be able to question, challenge, and improve upon existing processes.
