Position Overview

The Distributed AI division at Samsung is seeking a skilled Machine Learning Engineer to collaborate with a diverse team of research scientists and ML engineers. This role focuses on advancing research initiatives in embedded and distributed machine learning, communication technologies, and robotics. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in developing internal research tools, implementing innovative research concepts, and transforming prototypes into functional demonstrations and minimum viable products (MVPs).

Key Responsibilities

As a member of our team, you will engage in both technical and system-oriented tasks to deploy cutting-edge embedded, distributed, and mobile machine learning systems. Your contributions will support pioneering research and practical applications in areas such as computer vision and natural language processing. Opportunities for academic publication and patent filing may also arise, alongside potential cross-group collaborations that foster professional growth.

We are looking for a candidate with extensive expertise in system design and architecture. The ideal applicant should possess a comprehensive understanding of various layers within the system stack and a broad knowledge of machine learning system operations. A strong analytical mindset and the ability to make design decisions based on quantitative analysis are essential. In essence, we are in search of a versatile expert in machine learning systems.

Required Skills and Qualifications

A Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, along with relevant industry experience, is required. Key competencies include:

  • Proficiency with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and JAX, including techniques for efficient ML like quantization and pruning.
  • Experience deploying machine learning models on embedded and mobile platforms for inference and training.
  • Familiarity with distributed and multi-GPU training methodologies at scale.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, and a solid understanding of GNU/Linux environments.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.

Additional skills that would be advantageous include:

  • Experience in the deployment and maintenance of real-world distributed systems.
  • Practical knowledge of networking protocols and communication systems, including distributed inference and training.
  • Hands-on experience with computer vision applications in real-world scenarios, such as augmented reality, smart home technologies, and robotics.
  • Involvement in large-scale natural language processing research, covering all stages from data collection to model optimization.
  • Familiarity with Android operating systems and app development.
  • Experience with the Robot Operating System (ROS).

Employment Type : Permanent

Work Arrangement : Standard working week consists of three days onsite and two days remote work, as preferred.
