Position Overview

The Perinatal and Family Divisions deliver comprehensive Obstetric, Neonatal, Gynaecology, and Paediatric services, catering to both inpatient and outpatient needs. The primary maternity services are centralized at a leading hospital, complemented by various satellite clinics.

The delivery suite is equipped to handle a significant birth rate annually, alongside a dedicated Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. A full spectrum of Obstetrics services is available, including specialized units for complex pregnancies, maternal medicine, and perinatal mental health. Our team collaborates closely with regional tertiary networks and hospitals.

Key Responsibilities

We invite candidates with specialized interests to enhance our department, particularly those with expertise in advanced antenatal care, complex surgical procedures, and a passion for training and education. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to cultivate their obstetric interests while also maintaining their gynaecological expertise.

The main responsibilities include:

  • Providing support for high-risk obstetric antenatal and postnatal care
  • Assisting the complex surgical team and participating in multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Engaging in the consultant rota for both daytime and on-call duties
  • Delivering services in gynaecology operating rooms and outpatient clinics
  • Offering compassionate bereavement care in obstetrics
  • Facilitating mandatory training sessions for maternity multidisciplinary teams
  • Supervising and mentoring junior medical staff and students
  • Actively participating in quality improvement initiatives and clinical governance
  • Ensuring compliance with mandatory training, professional development, and performance reviews.

Essential Qualifications

  • MRCOG or equivalent specialist qualification
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent (confirmation of equivalence required)
  • Eligibility for entry onto the GMC specialist register within a specified timeframe

Desirable Qualifications

  • ATSM in Advanced Antenatal Practice
  • ATSM in benign abdominal surgery or relevant experience in managing elective/emergency gynaecology cases
  • Evidence of management and administrative experience
  • Proven track record in Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners

Additional Skills

  • Understanding of Clinical Governance issues
  • Ability to manage staff and familiarity with audit systems
