Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Legal Counsel to join our team at Interpublic Group, working closely with our public relations and experiential agency groups: The Weber Shandwick Collective, GOLIN, Octagon, and Jack Morton. As a Legal Counsel, you will provide expert guidance and support to our teams, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will have a strong background in commercial contracts and IP law, with experience in the marketing, advertising, and media sectors. You will be responsible for structuring, drafting, and negotiating client contracts and scopes of service, as well as delivering and supervising others on talent/influencer, production, technology, and other supplier agreements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Work with colleagues to develop and implement legal and business affairs strategies for our agency groups.
  2. Provide expert advice on commercial contracts, IP law, and data protection.
  3. Assist with new business opportunities, reviewing confidentiality agreements and proposed contract terms.
  4. Raise and advise on internal and external legal and regulatory requirements.
  5. Support agency colleagues with issue management and client/vendor communications.
  6. Help analyze agency creative ideas to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  7. Counsel agency management on business affairs and risk-management processes.
  8. Train agency staff on legal and business affairs issues.
  9. Collaborate with internal teams and introduce agency staff to IPG support services.
  10. Assist with trademark and domain name portfolio management.
  11. Liaise with external counsel as required.

Requirements:

  1. 4+ years of post-qualification experience.
  2. Strong knowledge of commercial contracts and IP law.
  3. Prior experience in the marketing, advertising, and media sectors.
  4. Interest in earned media, public relations, and media relations/crisis comms consultancy.
  5. Fluency in one or more European languages in addition to English.
  6. Motivated, self-starter who can work independently and make decisions.
