About the Role:
Essex County Council is excited to announce an opportunity for a Lead Legal Advisor in Planning to join our Governance team.
Key Responsibilities:
In this pivotal role, you will oversee the delivery of a comprehensive and high-caliber legal service, providing guidance to Members and Officers on various Planning matters, including environmental regulations, transportation issues, enforcement actions, and property agreements.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Representing the Council at tribunals and public inquiries, acting as the primary negotiator for all legal documentation related to Planning.
- Offering legal counsel to the Planning Committee and Local Plan Sub-Committee.
- Drafting and negotiating agreements and other essential documents.
- Preparing briefings and attending meetings to advise on corporate, legal, and ethical matters.
- Managing a personal caseload of projects, providing advice and representation as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a qualified Solicitor/Barrister or CILEX with substantial experience in a legal setting, particularly in Planning law. A proven ability to cultivate effective relationships is essential.
You should possess:
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Leadership capabilities, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- A proactive and adaptable approach to changing priorities.
