Position Overview

We are seeking applications for two Clinical Laboratory Technicians to become integral members of our Haematology and Transfusion departments within the Pathology division at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust. One position will be based at the Women's Hospital, while the other will be at the Children's Hospital.

The ideal candidates will embody our core values, showcasing a friendly and approachable demeanor, the ability to work independently and under pressure, effective communication skills, and a collaborative spirit. A commitment to delivering high-quality service while treating all individuals with respect and dignity is essential. Proficiency in literacy, numeracy, and organizational skills, along with a strong familiarity with information technology, is required. Candidates should possess the ability to prioritize tasks, adapt flexibly, and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail.

While prior experience in a medical laboratory setting is advantageous, it is not mandatory, as comprehensive training on the necessary equipment and software systems will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidates will serve as the primary point of contact for Trust personnel delivering Pathology samples or responding to inquiries from external users. A professional, courteous, and helpful attitude is crucial. Responsibilities will include:

  • Receiving, sorting, and preparing patient blood samples.
  • Validating reagents and monitoring temperatures.
  • Handling blood transfusion products.
  • Conducting routine maintenance on automated laboratory equipment.
