About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safeguarding Children Nurse to join our team at Stsft. As a key member of our Safeguarding Team, you will play a vital role in promoting good professional safeguarding practice and supporting the Named Nurse Safeguarding Children in providing advice and support regarding safeguarding within the Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide duty nurse support to advise Stsft staff regarding safeguarding aspects of their delivery of care.
  • Deliver safeguarding supervision to caseload holders and also to identified professional groups within Stsft.
  • Participate in regular audits to ensure assurance can be given that care delivery from a safeguarding perspective adheres to Stsft policies and procedures as well as national legislation and statutory guidance.
  • Support the planning, writing and delivery of safeguarding children training across the Trust to a range of professionals: including bespoke packages to specific teams and services.
  • Attend multiagency meetings including MASH, sharing health information which is relevant and proportionate to the meeting and ensuring the voice of the child/ren are heard and considered in risk assessment from a child health perspective. This will require excellent research and analysis of health information/records.

Requirements
  • Recent and frequent experience (within two years) of participation in children's safeguarding procedures with experience of working closely with children and families.
  • Demonstrates an ability to support the development of a training program.
  • Experience of working in the acute/community setting.
  • An understanding of domestic abuse, substance misuse and mental health risk factors for children and young people.
Qualifications
  • Degree in nursing studies or healthcare related subject or evidence of currently working towards this (UK equivalent).
  • Mentorship certificate/ Practice Assessor training or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of further recent study in safeguarding children level 3.
  • Health Visitor/School Nurse registration.
  • Safeguarding supervision course.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Thorough understanding of contemporary nursing issues appropriate to the post.
  • Evidence of relevant continuous professional development.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of Legislation and National Guidelines that drives safeguarding policy and practice.
  • Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or reassurance skills are required.
  • Able to work without supervision.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft office packages.
  • Counselling and appraisal skills.
