About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Accountant to join our team at UKCEH, a leading independent, not-for-profit research institute. As a valued member of our team, you will contribute to scientific discovery and generate data, insights, and solutions that researchers, businesses, and governments need to solve complex environmental challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of Project (Finance) Support Officers and Project Accountants, providing guidance on project-related tasks and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data.
  • Support project accountants with project invoicing and provision of financial cost statements to customers.
  • Drive data integrity and accuracy for a portfolio of projects.
  • Attend and contribute to Project Accounting and Support senior management team (SMT) meetings, highlighting issues/areas for development and working to improve processes.
  • Support year-end project processing and ad-hoc financial processes through the year.
Requirements
  • Fully or part-qualified accountant (alternatively, extensive experience working in Project Finance within an academic, scientific, or research environment will be considered).
  • IT literate, Microsoft Office with intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively translate financial information and concepts to non-financial budget holders, building good working relationships across the organisation.
  • Ability to plan, organise, and prioritise work effectively, demonstrating good time management skills.
  • Solution-focused and able to contribute well to problem-solving.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience of using Workday system.
  • Experience working within academic, scientific, or research environments.
