Solar Solution Engineer

About the Role

The Solar Solution Engineer sits within the Group Technical department at RES and reports to the Solar Lead. This position provides technical support for solar PV projects, primarily in the design and permitting phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct feasibility assessments to determine the viability of solar PV projects
  • Perform solar resource assessments and energy yield assessments to optimize project performance
  • Support the techno-economic optimization of solar projects, including solar PV system design and its impact on Balance of System
  • Carry out miscellaneous analyses in support of project development, including resource and yield assessments
  • Collaborate with the procurement team to discuss technical requirements with suppliers
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis and tool development to support project development

Requirements

  • Knowledge of statistics and data analysis
  • Knowledge of the solar PV industry and utility-scale solar PV project design
  • Good report writing skills and attention to detail
  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Experience

  • Experience working on utility-scale solar PV projects, either as a developer, EPC contractor, or technical advisor/owner engineer
  • Experience with system-wide design, including PV design, string sizing, inverter loading ratios, energy modeling, and layouts
  • Experience collaborating on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Experience with PVSyst or other PV simulation software
  • Experience designing for constructability and installation, and experience with GIS and programming languages such as Python

Qualifications

  • Degree-level qualification in electronics, physics, mathematics, engineering, or a related discipline
  • Or, a suitable trade/non-vocational background with appropriate experience
