Job Overview

South Central Ambulance Service NHS is seeking a skilled Fleet Engineer to join our team at our workshop facility in Didcot. As a Fleet Engineer, you will play a vital role in maintaining and repairing ambulances and other vehicles to ensure maximum levels of vehicle availability at all times.

Main Duties
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on ambulances and other vehicles, adhering to the standards required by SCAS.
  • Attend breakdowns and perform repairs, ensuring safety guidelines are followed.
  • Prepare new vehicles for service and prepare old vehicles for disposal.
  • Maintain records of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Ensure the health and safety of yourself and others, reporting any hazards or accidents immediately.
  • Participate in training courses to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Make decisions on vehicle repairs in the absence of the Fleet Supervisor.
  • Participate in the Duty Mechanic standby rota system.

Person Specification
  • City and Guilds Motor Vehicle Craft studies parts 1, 2 & 3 or Motor Vehicle Technicians qualification or BTEC equivalents.
  • Full Driving Licence.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Relevant workshop experience involving all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Organised and methodical approach to work.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
