The Valuation department in London is integral to Bonhams' UK operations, boasting long-standing clients and fiduciary relationships. This dynamic sector is known for its rapid pace and is responsible for high-value consignments and the nurturing of client partnerships. The department collaborates closely with its counterparts in Paris, New York, and Los Angeles.

About the role

As a Lead Valuation Specialist, your responsibilities will include:

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Playing a pivotal role in the department's success by cultivating client relationships and converting valuation prospects into sales.
  • Conducting valuations at client locations, at Bonhams, and other venues while ensuring exceptional client service.
  • Generating multi-category valuations for sales, as well as formal appraisals for probate and insurance needs.
  • Collaborating with specialist departments across the organization to finalize valuations and facilitate consignments for sale.
  • Managing client relationships effectively throughout the valuation process.
  • Ensuring that our formal valuations for probate and insurance adhere to the highest standards of research and production.
  • Maintaining strong client relationships throughout the valuation and sales processes.

About you

Key Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of several years of experience in an auction house setting.
  • We welcome candidates with either general valuation expertise or those from a specific specialist background.
  • Candidates with a general valuation background should be capable of identifying and valuing a wide array of fine and applied arts.
  • Those from a single specialist background should demonstrate a willingness to broaden their knowledge and engage in multi-category valuation tasks.
  • Proven negotiation skills with clients.
  • Extensive understanding of the art market, including valuation trends and insights within the auction industry.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • A second language is preferred.
