Role Overview:

  • Act as the project leader to ensure that customer-driven product development plans are executed from initial concept through to market launch.
  • Oversee and support the daily operations of the product development team, serving as the primary contact for any onsite product development challenges.
  • Utilize customer specifications to create detailed timelines that encompass product development, testing, and launch phases.
  • Collaborate with technical, supply chain, procurement, operations, and engineering teams to foster effective relationships that facilitate smooth product progression through the development process.
  • Ensure compliance with the product development process and maintain product files in an 'audit-ready' state with all necessary documentation completed.
  • Key Areas of Focus:
  • Management of multiple customer-driven projects
  • Recipe formulation
  • Customer specifications
  • Artwork development
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) management
  • Team development, including setting objectives and personal development plans, and organizing training as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill all product development needs for clients, ensuring adherence to customer codes of practice and BRC standards.
  • Mentor, develop, and assess team performance to enhance the overall quality of product development within the organization.
  • Stay informed about the latest food trends across the UK, Europe, and globally.
  • Collaborate with the technical team to manage the artwork process, ensuring it meets customer requirements and legal standards.
  • Work with procurement to identify new raw materials for product development, ensuring all new suppliers are approved prior to product launch.
  • Keep abreast of FSA guidelines and update products as necessary.
  • Oversee the required process development tasks through the product development team.
  • Take responsibility for all new products during the BOM process, leading weekly BOM committee meetings to ensure timely completion of actions.
  • Conduct weekly product development meetings to effectively communicate upcoming launches, new clients, recipe adjustments, and artwork modifications.
  • Manage customer specifications.
  • Perform routine benchmarking against competitors and market leaders.
  • Coordinate with Technical, Supply Chain, and Operations to introduce new case artwork into the business.

Essential Qualifications:

• Degree or equivalent relevant experience

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Training in thermal processing
  • Sensory evaluation training
  • Food legislation training

Experience:

  • Proven experience managing a busy product development department with multiple clients and projects
  • Leadership experience within a product development team
  • Experience in developing products for retail clients from concept to launch
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications
