Position Overview


We are in search of a skilled Software Technician to become a vital part of our Simulator Engineering team at Matchtech. This role focuses on the upkeep and improvement of our advanced Helicopter Simulators.

As a Software Technician, you will be responsible for delivering both technical and operational assistance. This includes software setup, system upkeep, troubleshooting, and contributing to the development of software for our flight simulation systems.


This role presents a diverse range of responsibilities, from writing software code and scripts to configuring systems, implementing new flight systems in the simulator, integrating additional features, and performing fault-finding investigations to ensure the simulators are fully operational for training purposes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out assigned software development tasks, including coding and implementation.
  • Perform various testing types, such as debugging and robustness evaluations.
  • Provide accurate time estimates for software task completion and identify potential risks.
  • Investigate and resolve issues reported by simulator users.
Candidate Profile

We are looking for individuals who demonstrate:


  • Initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness within a dynamic development team.
  • The capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, C#, or Fortran.
  • Experience with scripting languages like BASH/CSH.
  • Proficiency in UNIX/Linux system administration.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP and network troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) such as Microsoft Visual Studio.
  • Experience with Windows, Xterm, and XWindows environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in modeling and simulation or experience in defense and security sectors.
  • Familiarity with service-oriented architectures.
  • Knowledge of networking standards such as DDS and ZeroMQ.
Additional Information

  • Candidates must have the right to live and work in the UK.
  • Some responsibilities may require travel within the UK and internationally, including occasional overtime and weekend work.
  • Candidates must be eligible to obtain or transfer Security Clearance, which is sponsored by the company. Applicants must have resided continuously in the UK for the past five years or currently hold NATO SC level Security Clearance that can be transferred to the UK.
