This role is subject to:

Qualifications: A degree or equivalent qualification in a field relevant to local government regulations, such as Environmental Health or Trading Standards.

Casual Car Documentation: The selected candidate will be classified as a Casual Car User, indicating that occasional car travel may be necessary, although it is not a core requirement of the position. If driving is required, a valid driving license and personal vehicle must be provided, along with all necessary documentation. An allowance will be granted for business mileage.

BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) Clearance: This position is contingent upon BPSS checks. Candidates must consent to and comply with BPSS verification procedures before starting. This includes confirming identity, nationality and immigration status, a three-year employment history, and a basic criminal record check.

Role Responsibilities: This position involves overseeing staff within the Housing Compliance and Enforcement Team. You will be accountable for delivering services related to housing standards in the private sector and managing both responsive and proactive enforcement of pertinent housing and environmental regulations to protect residents and communities. Managers are expected to oversee a systematic inspection schedule for privately rented properties.

The Housing Compliance and Enforcement Team addresses reports of housing disrepair and health and safety issues within the private rental market, taking necessary enforcement actions. The team is responsible for licensing and conducting scheduled inspections of licensable Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and selectively licensed properties. Collaboration with local fire services is essential, as the team engages in proactive measures to combat substandard and hazardous housing conditions.
