Position Overview:
We are in search of a skilled professional with a strong interest in the steelwork fabrication sector to take on the role of Commercial Manager / Estimator / Quantity Surveyor. As an integral member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing commercial functions, estimating project costs, and ensuring thorough quantity surveying throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in commercial management, estimating, and quantity surveying within the steelwork fabrication industry. Strong communication and negotiation skills are crucial, as you will be collaborating with internal teams, suppliers, and clients to meet project goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Commercial Management:

  • Formulate and execute commercial strategies to enhance project profitability and ensure sustainable growth.
  • Manage contract negotiations, securing favorable terms while minimizing risks.
  • Oversee project budgets, expenses, and cash flow to ensure financial stability and compliance with financial objectives.
  • Work closely with project teams to identify opportunities for value engineering and cost efficiencies without compromising quality.
  • Lead commercial negotiations and resolve disputes to achieve beneficial outcomes.

Estimating:

  • Conduct detailed analyses of project specifications, drawings, and requirements to accurately estimate material, labor, and overhead costs.
  • Prepare comprehensive and competitive bids and proposals that align with client expectations and project goals.
  • Utilize industry-standard software and methodologies to produce precise estimates and cost forecasts.
  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions.
  • Continuously improve estimating processes and methodologies to boost accuracy and efficiency.

Quantity Surveying:

  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs and measurements to accurately evaluate project scope and requirements.
  • Prepare comprehensive bills of quantities (BOQs) and cost estimates for tender submissions and project planning.
  • Generate monthly valuations and payment applications for clients.
  • Conduct thorough cost analyses and value engineering assessments to optimize project budgets and resource allocation.
  • Monitor project progress and expenditures, identifying and addressing cost variations and discrepancies.
  • Provide expert guidance on contractual matters, variations, claims, and cost control strategies to mitigate risks and maximize profitability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial management, estimating, and quantity surveying within the steelwork fabrication sector.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and commercial negotiation techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex project specifications and drawings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively liaising with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Professional accreditation or membership with relevant industry bodies (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is advantageous.
