About the Opportunity

This initiative invites applications for funding aimed at fostering collaborative research endeavors with international scholars based in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. This funding opportunity is a joint effort between the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the State of São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).

Collaborative projects will be governed by a formal agreement established between UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and FAPESP.

To be eligible, applicants must be affiliated with a UK research organization that qualifies for AHRC funding.

The total economic cost (FEC) for the UK segment of the project should fall between £300,000 and £1.5 million, with AHRC covering 80% of the FEC.

FAPESP will finance all justified expenses for Brazilian researchers, which must be submitted through their SAGe system.

The maximum duration for these grants is five years.

Eligibility Criteria UK Partners

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be actively engaged in postdoctoral research.
  • Hold a doctorate or demonstrate equivalent research experience or training.
  • Possess skills, knowledge, and experience suitable for the proposed project.
  • Be affiliated with a recognized research organization or have an offer of support from such an organization.
Brazilian Partners

Eligibility requirements for Brazilian partners include:

  • Being based at an eligible institution in the State of São Paulo.
  • Contacting FAPESP prior to application to confirm eligibility.
  • Obtaining a confirmation letter from FAPESP, which must accompany the application submitted to AHRC.
  • Submitting applications simultaneously through the respective systems by both the UK and São Paulo project leads.
Project Co-Leads

This funding opportunity supports project co-leads, including those from international institutions. Non-UK research organizations can participate as project co-leads, with funding available from AHRC under the international co-lead policy.

Exclusions

Please note that project studentships (funding for PhD studies) are not supported under this funding opportunity.
