Collaborative Research Initiative with Brazilian Scholars

This initiative invites applications for funding aimed at fostering collaboration with international researchers based in the State of São Paulo, Brazil.
Applicants are encouraged to submit a joint research grant proposal that aligns with the objectives of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the State of São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).
Collaborative efforts will be governed by a formal agreement established between UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and FAPESP.
To be eligible, applicants must be affiliated with a UK research institution that qualifies for AHRC funding.
The total economic cost (FEC) for the UK segment of the project should fall between £300,000 and £1.5 million, with AHRC covering 80% of the FEC.
FAPESP will finance all justified expenses for Brazilian researchers, which must be submitted through their SAGe system.
The maximum duration for these grants is five years.
Eligibility Criteria UK PartnersTo qualify for this funding, UK partners must:
- Be actively engaged in postdoctoral research.
- Hold a doctorate or demonstrate equivalent research experience or training.
- Possess the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience relevant to the proposed project.
- Be affiliated with a recognized research organization or have support from such an organization.
Applicants must adhere to the current eligibility standards for standard AHRC research grant applications.
Brazilian Partners- Must be based at an eligible institution within the State of São Paulo.
- Contact FAPESP prior to application to confirm eligibility.
- Obtain a confirmation letter from FAPESP, which must accompany the application submitted to AHRC.
- Submit applications simultaneously through the Funding Service and the SAGe system.
This funding opportunity supports project co-leads, including those from international institutions. Non-UK research organizations can participate as project co-leads, funded by AHRC under specific guidelines.

Ineligibility CriteriaFunding for project studentships (PhD study) is not supported under this initiative.
