Job Title: Health Care Assistant - Ventilation Service

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Health Care Assistant to join our team in the Ventilation Service at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability. As a Health Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients with complex neuro-disability requiring invasive mechanical ventilation support.

About the Role:

As a Health Care Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting patients with all aspects of their personal hygiene care, including washing, bathing, dressing, continence, and mouth care. You will also work in a ventilation unit assisting patients requiring complex invasive mechanical ventilation support via a tracheostomy tube.

You will participate fully in a 24-hour, 7-day week staff roster, including working Bank Holidays, as required by the needs of the service. Shift patterns may vary and include split days off. A high degree of flexibility is required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist patients with personal hygiene care, including washing, bathing, dressing, continence, and mouth care.
  • Work in a ventilation unit assisting patients requiring complex invasive mechanical ventilation support via a tracheostomy tube.
  • Assist with mobility, including hoisting, positioning, and assisting with mobility aids.
  • Support patients with eating and drinking tasks, including the use of adapted feeding equipment and recording of food and fluid intake.
  • Provide proficient communication with patients and others in challenging situations.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • At least 6 months of experience in a relevant healthcare environment in ventilation.
  • Verbal and Numerical qualification Level 2 English & Maths.
  • Able to carry out manual handling tasks with patients that require complex care.
