Position Overview

The Dorset Breast Screening Unit (DBSU), affiliated with the University Hospital Dorset Trust, conducts screenings for approximately 43,000 women annually as part of the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme. The unit is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including eight mammography units, of which three are mobile, and four are capable of tomosynthesis.

We are currently seeking a Consultant Breast Radiographer and invite applications from seasoned Consultant radiographers and practitioners aspiring to reach this level, provided they possess at least two elements of advanced practice.

Comprehensive training will be offered to the right candidate to attain Consultant Radiographer status in Breast Imaging and to complete an MSc.

Compensation will be determined based on the required training and experience, with potential banding at 8a or b for trainees and band c upon qualification and successful completion of the probationary period.

Main Responsibilities

The Consultant Radiographer or trainee will play a pivotal role within the multi-disciplinary team, providing specialized insights for Breast Imaging. Responsibilities will encompass:

  • Film interpretation
  • Ultrasound procedures
  • Biopsy execution
  • Management of independent assessments and symptomatic breast clinics at designated hospitals

Consultant practice is fully integrated into our service, supported by four current Consultant radiographers who deliver expert professional guidance to other healthcare professionals, multi-disciplinary teams, and patients. Our department is progressive and has consistently promoted advanced practice.

Our team of advanced practitioners spans various specialties, contributing to the enhancement of Breast Imaging Services within the Trust. We actively engage in numerous research initiatives, both locally and nationally, and collaborate with a local university to provide educational opportunities on their Breast MSc pathway.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, service-oriented professional, eager to collaborate with diverse disciplines and professionals at all organizational levels.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria:

  • BSc in Radiography or equivalent
  • HCPC Registration
  • PgCert in Mammography
  • MSc in Mammography or equivalent

Desirable Criteria:

  • Teaching qualification
  • Advanced practice breast module qualifications
Experience

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum of 2 years as an advanced practitioner
  • Experience in breast screening

Desirable Criteria:

  • Teaching experience
  • Research and study design experience
  • Experience as an independent practitioner
