Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our Haematology team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants, ensuring the smooth operation of our diagnostic laboratory and maintaining the highest standards of quality and patient care.
Main Responsibilities- Lead a team of Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants, providing guidance and support to ensure the effective operation of the laboratory.
- Develop and implement quality management systems to maintain UKAS accreditation status.
- Train and supervise staff, maintaining staff competency logs and ensuring that all team members are equipped to perform their roles effectively.
- Manage staffing in the section, ensuring that the laboratory is adequately staffed to meet the needs of the service.
- Ensure that analysers are maintained correctly, undertaking any troubleshooting that is required and dealing with engineer visits for maintenance and repairs.
- Organise the section around planned and unplanned analytical downtime, ensuring that the laboratory remains operational at all times.
- Manage stock control and ordering of reagents and materials, ensuring that the laboratory has the necessary supplies to maintain its services.
The ideal candidate will have:
- HCPC registration with no fitness to practice concerns or limits to practice.
- Completed the IBMS Specialist Diploma (or CPSM/HPC log book and oral exam).
- Masters of Science (MSc.) or equivalent higher level qualification in an appropriate speciality.
- At least 4 years of continuous experience post IBMS Specialist Diploma (or CPSM/HPC) in a UK NHS diagnostic laboratory, with experience in Haematology laboratory work.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues and championed diversity in previous roles.
