We are currently seeking a skilled Greenhouse Gas Field Technician to join our dedicated team at UKCEH, a leading independent research institute focused on environmental science. As part of our 600-strong workforce, you will play a crucial role in scientific research and data generation that aids researchers, businesses, and governments in addressing complex environmental issues.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of the Wetlands, Grasslands, and Croplands team, where you will engage in land-based solutions aimed at achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. Your work will involve a variety of natural and managed peatland ecosystems, focusing on methods for greenhouse gas removal from the atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct field data collection to monitor greenhouse gas emissions and peatland subsidence from various sites.
- Utilize advanced chamber techniques and cost-effective environmental sensors for detailed emission surveys.
- Contribute to significant data collection, management, analysis, and publication efforts.
- Support UK government policy and national emissions inventory reporting.
- Engage with stakeholders from diverse organizations.
Skills and Experience Required:
- A degree in a relevant field (e.g., Environmental Science, Physical Science, Engineering, Forestry) or equivalent experience.
- A full UK (manual) driving license and willingness to travel to remote sites year-round.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Capability to plan and coordinate fieldwork activities effectively.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of audiences.
- Experience in remote outdoor environments.
- A genuine enthusiasm for environmental science.
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of ecosystems, particularly peatlands and nature-based solutions.
- Data analysis skills or a willingness to develop these capabilities.
- Experience with scientific equipment in the field, including greenhouse gas analyzers and chambers.
- Ability to calculate greenhouse gas fluxes from chamber data.
- Management and curation of scientific datasets.
- Willingness to support scientific research in international locations.
