Role Overview: As a recognized authority in the field of therapeutic radiography, the Radiotherapy Consultant Specialist will manage a complex patient caseload, receiving referrals from Clinical and Medical Oncologists or other multidisciplinary team members. This position plays a crucial role in advancing practice, knowledge, skills, and roles within the specialty, establishing evidence-based methodologies.
Core Responsibilities: The role encompasses four primary functions: expert practice, professional leadership and consultancy, education and training, and research and audit.
Collaboration: The post holder will collaborate with the Divisional Management Team, concentrating on the strategic professional agenda. This may include addressing corporate professional matters and serving as an expert and senior role model.
Clinical Leadership: As a lead clinician, the Radiotherapy Consultant Specialist will work across the Trust and beyond to enhance care and outcomes for patients receiving radiotherapy for prostate cancer.
Patient Care: You will closely collaborate with a team of Clinical Oncologists specializing in Breast Cancer, managing your own group of patients undergoing radiotherapy for breast cancer. The team is dynamic and innovative, implementing advanced techniques through participation in clinical trials.
- Provide expert-level care for patients undergoing prostate radiotherapy.
- Accept direct referrals from the Breast Cancer MDT under the guidance of Clinical Oncologists.
- Conduct new patient consultations, including the interpretation of diagnostic tests and clinical assessments to determine treatment suitability, while sensitively communicating complex information.
- Assess, consent, treat, and follow up on your own caseload of patients referred directly from MDT members.
- In compliance with regulatory standards, act as a referrer for breast radiotherapy, practitioner for patient planning CT scans, operator for localization and planning activities, and practitioner for the justification and authorization of therapy-level radiation doses.
- Contribute to the national and international breast cancer agenda.
- Establish yourself as a local, national, and potentially international leader in Breast Radiotherapy, influencing and developing relevant national guidelines and policies.
- Represent the Trust in regional and/or national developments in breast radiotherapy as an expert/lead clinician.
