Position Overview

The Senior Therapeutic Radiography Consultant is a pivotal role within the clinical landscape, tasked with managing a complex patient portfolio. This position accepts referrals from Clinical and Medical Oncologists as well as other multidisciplinary team members. The consultant will play a crucial role in advancing practice, enhancing knowledge, and refining skills within the specialty, while establishing evidence-based methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert-level care for patients undergoing breast radiotherapy.
  • Receive direct referrals from the Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Teams under the guidance of Clinical Oncologists.
  • Conduct initial patient consultations, interpreting diagnostic results and assessing patients' eligibility for treatment, while effectively communicating complex information.
  • Manage, consent, treat, and follow up with a dedicated caseload of patients referred directly from MDT members.
  • In accordance with the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations, act as a referrer, practitioner, and operator for various radiotherapy processes.
  • Contribute to the national and international breast cancer agenda.
  • Establish a reputation as a leader in Breast Radiotherapy, influencing national guidelines and policies.
  • Represent the Trust in regional and national initiatives related to breast radiotherapy.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • Current professional registration with HCPC.
  • Health-related MSc/MA.
  • Evidence of advanced specialist education in radiotherapy.
  • Leadership qualification or extensive leadership experience.

Desirable:

  • Teaching qualification.
  • Health-related doctoral studies (PhD, DPhil) or in progress.

  • Familiarity with clinical guidelines from recognized bodies.
  • Experience in conducting and presenting primary research.
  • Evidence of publications in peer-reviewed journals or professional conferences.

Desirable:

  • Experience in developing business cases or research funding proposals.
